In the recent FA Cup match against Liverpool, even though Arsenal lost 2-0, there were some noteworthy performances, and William Saliba stood out as one of the bright spots.
Despite Arsenal entering the game with back-to-back losses in the Premier League, there was hope for a positive response. The team controlled much of the first half, but missed opportunities prevented them from scoring.
The second half saw a more balanced game, but an unfortunate own goal by Jakub Kiwior gave Liverpool the lead. In stoppage time, Luis Diaz secured Liverpool’s victory with a powerful shot.
Although Arsenal struggled to convert chances in the final third, there were positives. Martin Odegaard, playing in the number 10 role, was lively and created four key passes.
However, the standout performer was William Saliba, who had a solid defensive day, making six clearances and two tackles. He completed 88% of his passes, demonstrating comfort in his defensive responsibilities.
While Saliba’s individual form pleased Gunners fans, the overall result remains crucial. Mikel Arteta needs to address the team’s attacking struggles, as they have been creating goal-scoring opportunities but failing to capitalize on them.
Looking ahead, Arsenal’s next Premier League match is against Crystal Palace on January 20. Anything less than a victory in that game could raise serious doubts about their title prospects.
