Arsenal’s recent struggles in scoring goals have left fans feeling quite disheartened, especially when it comes to the topic of strikers. The team’s performance in the FA Cup against Liverpool was a tough pill to swallow, as they were eliminated with a 2-0 loss, adding to their string of disappointing results.

Mikel Arteta’s squad, facing a shortage of attacking prowess, desperately needs reinforcements in this January transfer window. The team’s lackluster performance has been a persistent issue, with only one victory in their last seven matches across various competitions. Even against Liverpool, where Arsenal had 18 chances, only five found the target, and they missed what were classified as ‘four big chances’ by Sofascore.

The recent pattern of missed opportunities was evident in their matches against West Ham and Fulham, where they struggled to convert numerous touches in the opposition’s penalty area into goals. Against Liverpool, despite creating chances, Arsenal couldn’t find the back of the net, raising questions about the team’s attacking efficiency.

In the absence of Gabriel Jesus, Arteta entrusted Kai Havertz with leading the line against Liverpool. However, the German’s performance was marked by indecision and a lack of finishing finesse. Despite being a constant option and pressing well, Havertz failed to capitalize on two significant opportunities, contributing to a display that failed to impress. While his pass success rate was only 67%, he wasn’t the worst performer in Arsenal colors.

Bukayo Saka, often immune to criticism, faced a dip in form against Liverpool, earning him a share of the blame for Arsenal’s offensive struggles. Despite being a high earner at £195k per week, Saka’s recent goal-scoring record has been disappointing, with only one goal in his last seven matches. His missed chance in the second half, firing over the bar when it seemed easier to score, highlighted his struggles in front of goal. Even the typically reliable Saka faced difficulties against Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, losing ground duels and failing with attempted dribbles.

As Arsenal grapples with a challenging period in their attacking lineup, the onus is on academy graduate Saka and his offensive teammates to improve and find their goal-scoring form again. The fans are hoping for better days ahead for the team.
