After the Manchester United play against Chelsea, it is clear that there are two key things that the board must provide for Ruben Amorim if they want him to bring in the results that we want from him. I believe he’ll do better than ETH” – Nani has advised Manchester United to provide Ruben Amorim with two key resources to succeed, especially in light of Erik ten Hag’s challenges.

Manchester United legend Nani has urged his former club to provide Ruben Amorim with two key things following his appointment as Erik ten Hag’s successor.

Amorim will officially take over during the November international break, stepping into his first role outside Portugal, where he led Sporting to five trophies, including a Liga Portugal title in his debut season.

Nani, who briefly played alongside Amorim for Portugal, believes the new manager has the right qualities to succeed at Old Trafford.

However, he emphasized that the club must grant him both “patience” and “top-quality players” to enable his success. “He’s done a fantastic job at Sporting,” Nani remarked after Estrela da Amadora’s recent 5-1 loss to Sporting. “With patience and the right players, he’ll do well at United, which is one of the best clubs in the world.”

During Ten Hag’s tenure, United invested approximately £600 million on 21 new signings and secured both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

However, the club finished a record low eighth in the 2023/2024 Premier League. Amorim, meanwhile, has dismissed signing any current Sporting players, mentioning that “[Viktor] Gyokeres costs €100 million (£84m), so I won’t be bringing any Sporting player in January.”

Nani has voiced strong support for Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s incoming manager, who will step in as Erik ten Hag’s successor during the November international break. Amorim, who made his mark by winning five trophies, including a Liga Portugal title with Sporting Lisbon, brings fresh tactics and a high reputation, despite this being his first coaching role outside of Portugal.

Nani, who briefly played with Amorim on the Portuguese national team, stressed that patience and quality players are critical for Amorim’s success at United. He commended the work Amorim did at Sporting and suggested that with the right conditions at Old Trafford, Amorim could thrive. Nani remarked that Manchester United’s world-class stature can help Amorim replicate his previous success, as long as he is given sufficient time and resources.

Under Ten Hag, Manchester United invested heavily, spending around £600 million on new signings and capturing the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. However, the club’s record-low finish of eighth in the Premier League highlighted challenges that Amorim will need to address. Notably, Amorim ruled out bringing in players from Sporting, saying Gyokeres, a prominent forward, would be too costly at €100 million (£84m), hinting at a pragmatic approach to strengthening the squad.

Nani’s words reflect the anticipation surrounding Amorim’s arrival and the belief that, with backing, he can restore United’s competitive edge.
