Let’s call a spade a spade, this guy is not good enough to play for our team, enough is enough and this have to end,I have to voice out now as a captain”, Bruno Fernandez express dissatisfaction over ONE Man United teammate lately – Not Rashford and not Garnacho.

Amorim’s tenure as United manager began with a strong start at Portman Road, as Marcus Rashford put the visitors ahead just two minutes into the match.
However, Ipswich had their chances, with Liam Delap missing a great opportunity before Kieran McKenna’s side equalized through Omari Hutchinson’s long-range shot, which deflected off Noussair Mazraoui’s head and into the top corner past Andre Onana.
In the second half, Amorim made five substitutions, including bringing on Luke Shaw, Manuel Ugarte, Rasmus Hojlund, Zirkzee, and Mason Mount.
Zirkzee was placed in a No.10 role behind Hojlund after his 68th-minute introduction, but Amorim made it clear the Dutch forward needs to work harder to get into the box during United’s attacking play.
I think decision-making is a concern; at this level, you shouldn’t need to coach them,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “You need to keep the ball and understand the momentum to put it in the right place.
Sometimes you have to put the ball forward when you can’t keep possession. In the final moments, we had two strikers in the box, and Josh [Zirkzee] has to understand that he needs to be there to meet the crosses.
We’re not always making the right decisions, and that’s something we need to address. People talk about the 3-4-3 system, but it’s not the system; it’s the understanding of the game we need to improve.”
Amorim also pointed to Evans’ failure to press Hutchinson, who had space to receive the ball and attack United’s defense. “In the first half, we were a bit too cautious,” Amorim explained. “Morsy [No.5] was always free, and we should have pressed him. Hutchinson found space, and Jonny Evans should have been on him.
We didn’t have enough training time, so it’s hard to react perfectly in those situations. We had just two days, and the players were a bit confused. When you stay back and don’t press, you’re not moving enough. We can see this in the data, and we need to work on improving our physicality and ability to cope with high pressure.”
Amorim also expressed a desire for Bruno Fernandes to play a more central role in United’s build-up play. “I think Bruno Fernandes improved when he played closer to the ball, so he can sometimes deliver the long passes,” Amorim said. “But you can’t expect him to be in that position all the time, as he tends to want the long ball every time. We’re still learning about the players, and it will take time to get everything right.”
Rúben Amorim’s first match in charge of Manchester United highlighted both the potential and the challenges of his early tenure. Despite taking an early lead through Marcus Rashford, United’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town exposed issues with decision-making, defensive organization, and tactical execution.
### Key Moments and Tactical Observations:
1. **Early Goal but Defensive Vulnerabilities**: Rashford’s second-minute goal showcased United’s ability to strike quickly. However, defensive lapses allowed Omari Hutchinson to equalize with a deflected effort, reflecting a lack of pressing and organization, particularly involving Jonny Evans and Noussair Mazraoui.
2. **Substitutions and Tactical Adjustments**: Amorim’s decision to introduce key players like Manuel Ugarte, Luke Shaw, Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Mason Mount in the second half added energy. However, Zirkzee’s unfamiliarity with the No.10 role raised concerns. Amorim criticized his reluctance to attack the box, underlining the need for greater tactical discipline.
3. **System vs. Game Understanding**: Amorim defended his 3-4-3 system, emphasizing that the team’s struggles stemmed from poor decision-making rather than formation flaws. He stressed the importance of understanding when to play forward or maintain possession, especially in high-pressure situations.
4. **Defensive Pressing Issues**: Amorim pointed out gaps in pressing, particularly Jonny Evans’ failure to close down Hutchinson and the lack of pressure on Ipswich’s Sam Morsy. These lapses were attributed to limited training time and a cautious first-half approach.
5. **Bruno Fernandes’ Role**: Amorim highlighted Bruno Fernandes’ impact when playing closer to the ball, allowing him to dictate play with long passes. However, he acknowledged the need to balance Bruno’s positional tendencies with United’s overall build-up strategy.
### Areas for Improvement:
– **Decision-Making in Attack**: Zirkzee and others must adapt quickly to Amorim’s expectations, particularly in positioning during attacking plays.
– **Defensive Cohesion**: Pressing and tracking opponents require better coordination, especially against teams exploiting space between the lines.
– **Adaptation to Amorim’s Philosophy**: With limited training time, players need to grasp Amorim’s tactical concepts more effectively to execute his vision.
Amorim’s debut showed glimpses of promise but underscored the work ahead to instill his philosophy and elevate United’s game intelligence. His candid analysis suggests a willingness to address weaknesses head-on, which could prove pivotal in his quest to build a cohesive and competitive team.
