Reports indicate that Benfica’s pursuit of Tyrell Malacia has ‘stalled’ as the Manchester United defender did not travel to Portugal as initially planned.
Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu is on the verge of completing his transfer to Old Trafford after bidding farewell to his teammates following their 3-1 victory over Parma on Friday.
Dorgu was an unused substitute in that match, with reports suggesting that he has already undergone his medical and signed his contract ahead of his move to Manchester United.
United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, aims to bring in players who fit his 3-4-3 formation and playing style, and Dorgu has been identified as the ideal wing-back for this system.
With Dorgu’s signing nearly finalized, it was anticipated that Malacia’s departure would be straightforward, but the Dutch defender is currently in limbo.
The Athletic reporter Mark Critchley has stated that there is still hope for a deal for Malacia to join Benfica, although the left-back ‘didn’t travel to Portugal as planned.’
Critchley wrote:
‘Tyrell Malacia’s proposed loan move from Manchester United to Benfica has stalled.
‘The 25-year-old was ready to join the Portuguese side for the rest of the season, with club-to-club discussions set for Saturday to see if an agreement could be made.
‘With United about to finalize the signing of Lecce left wing-back Patrick Dorgu, Malacia was expected to earn regular minutes elsewhere.
However, Malacia didn’t travel to Portugal as planned, and it remains uncertain if an agreement can be reached to revive the move.’
Meanwhile, reports in Spain suggest that the transfer market is ‘heating up’ with news that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are competing to sign one of football’s most promising young talents: Dean Huijsen.
The Bournemouth defender has impressed in the Premier League this season, and for Manchester United, ‘the signing of Huijsen is seen as a long-term investment to bolster their defense, an area they have been trying to improve for several seasons.’
It is said that Amorim has ‘shown a strong interest in the defender, believing in his youth and potential to quickly adapt to the high level of competition demanded by the Premier League.’ Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker believes that Dorgu, once signed, will be immediately integrated into the team as Amorim will want to assess the Denmark international “right away.” Parker told Betfred: “I’d expect it because there’s no point spending good money on a player and making them sit and watch. There’s no sitting and watching at Manchester United anymore. You get them in there straight away and have a look at them
