Man United fans name the first player they want gone in the summer after ‘shambolic’ first half performance

Manchester United fans have called on the club to sell one player as soon as possible after watching their performance against Everton.
On Saturday morning, United travelled to face former manager David Moyes in their final match at Everton’s Goodison Park.
After last week’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur saw the Red Devils fall behind the Toffees in the Premier League table, fans had hoped that their side would rally for Saturday’s match.
But with the half-time score sitting at 2-0 to the hosts, United fans have taken to social media to call out one player in particular, claiming he must be sold in the summer.

A goal from in form Everton striker Beto saw the hosts take the lead early in the half, while a mistake from United defender Harry Maguire gifted Abdoulaye Doucoure the chance to double Everton’s lead before half-time.
Although United goalkeeper Andre Onana was able to parry a powerful shot from Jack Harrison, he was left helpless after Maguire failed to beat the Doucoure in the air, and fans are not happy.
Reacting to his performance in the first half, one fan wrote: “Maguire has the turning ability of a HGV lorry.”
While one claimed: “Maguire’s one of the worst players I’ve ever seen at this club.”
Another agreed, writing: “That defending from Harry Maguire is a real throwback to his bleakest days in a United shirt. United are being completely bullied.”
And one demanded: “You can’t tell me we are a serious club and give Maguire a new contract. Sell him in the summer.”
In the recent Premier League match on February 22, 2025, Manchester United faced a challenging first half against Everton at Goodison Park, trailing 2-0 at halftime. Everton’s goals came from striker Beto and midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. The second goal was particularly concerning for United fans, as it resulted from a defensive lapse involving Harry Maguire. Goalkeeper Andre Onana managed to parry a powerful shot from Jack Harrison, but Maguire failed to clear the ball effectively, allowing Doucoure to capitalize and double Everton’s lead.
This performance has intensified criticism of Maguire among Manchester United supporters. Many fans took to social media to express their frustration, with some calling for his departure in the upcoming summer transfer window. One fan described Maguire’s defending as reminiscent of his most challenging periods in a United jersey, while another questioned the club’s seriousness if they were to offer him a new contract, suggesting a sale instead.
The match also saw former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in attendance, whose visible frustration mirrored the sentiments of many supporters. His presence underscored the gravity of United’s current struggles and the mounting pressure on both players and management to address the team’s defensive vulnerabilities.
As the season progresses, the scrutiny on Maguire’s performances is likely to intensify, especially if defensive issues persist. The club’s management will need to assess whether changes in personnel or tactics are necessary to restore stability and confidence within the squad.
