Manchester United are reportedly already considering a potential replacement for Ruben Amorim, but they aren’t the only Premier League club keeping an eye on the situation.

Since taking over at Old Trafford in November as Erik ten Hag’s successor, Amorim has struggled to make an impact. In his debut season, the Portuguese manager has led United to just five Premier League wins, alongside three draws and a concerning eight losses.

A new report suggests that United may already be bracing for a managerial change, having identified their preferred candidate should Amorim’s tenure come to an early end.

Currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, United are on course for their worst finish since the league’s inception in 1992. This has led to growing frustration among fans, with some calling for Amorim’s dismissal despite his short time in charge.

According to Italian outlet TuttoSport, United are closely monitoring Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi, whose contract with the Serie A club is set to expire next year. Inzaghi has enjoyed a stellar season, leading Inter to the top of the Serie A table after securing the league title last year.

However, United are not the only English club interested in the Italian coach. Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly tracking Inzaghi as a potential replacement for Ange Postecoglou, who has endured a difficult campaign.

Despite the speculation, it appears unlikely that United will part ways with Amorim in the immediate future. Club minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently expressed his support for the manager in an interview on The Overlap.

“I think Ruben has done an excellent job,” Ratcliffe told Gary Neville.

“I really like Ruben. Considering the circumstances—arriving mid-season, having no time to implement his playing style, inheriting a squad he didn’t build, dealing with the language barrier, and managing one of the biggest clubs in the world—I think he’s done a remarkably good job.”

Recent reports indicate that Manchester United is evaluating the future of manager Rúben Amorim following a series of underwhelming performances. Since his appointment in November 2024, Amorim has overseen a challenging period, with the team securing only five Premier League victories, alongside three draws and eight losses. This sequence has positioned United 14th in the league, marking a potential low since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.

In light of these developments, the club is reportedly considering alternative managerial options. One prominent name surfacing is former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández. According to journalist Alex Pintanel, United is contemplating a change at the season’s end, with Xavi being a potential candidate.

Another figure linked to the managerial role is Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi. However, reports from March 2024 suggest that Inzaghi had previously dismissed Premier League approaches, expressing contentment with his tenure at Inter. Additionally, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that while Inzaghi admires the Premier League, he remains committed to Inter Milan.

Despite the ongoing speculation, some club officials continue to support Amorim. Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently praised the manager, acknowledging the challenges of adapting mid-season and expressing confidence in Amorim’s capabilities.

As the season progresses, Manchester United’s performance and managerial decisions will undoubtedly remain under close scrutiny from both fans and analysts.
