Virgil van Dijk’s future at Liverpool is currently uncertain, even though there have been recent denials about a potential move to Saudi Arabia.

According to The Athleticā€™s Transfer DealSheet, there has been no communication between Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr and Liverpool regarding van Dijk. Journalists, citing anonymous senior sources at Liverpool, have confirmed that Al Nassr has not made any approach about the Dutch defender.

Van Dijk has one year left on his contract and continues to be a crucial player for Liverpool, especially under the incoming head coach, Arne Slot. However, if a new contract isn’t agreed upon soon, van Dijk could leave the club as a free agent next summer.

In other news, Liverpool is reportedly interested in Lille defender Leny Yoro as a potential addition to their squad.

Besides van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah also have contracts that expire in the summer of 2025. Losing van Dijk would be a significant setback for Liverpool. Despite earlier concerns about Salah’s long-term fitness after a serious injury, it’s clear that keeping van Dijk should be a top priority for the club.

At 32 years old, turning 33 in July, van Dijk remains in excellent physical condition and his defensive skills are as sharp as ever. Since recovering from a severe injury caused by Everton’s Jordan Pickford, van Dijk has arguably been performing at his best.

Liverpool must do everything they can to ensure van Dijk remains at Anfield beyond his contract expiration in 2025. There should be no excuses in securing his future with the team.
