Arsenal is now actively trying to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, according to Calciomercato.
The London team wants to improve their defense this summer. They are looking for a player who can use his left foot well and play both in central defense and at left-back.
Recently, Calafiori has become a key target for Arsenal. Calciomercato reports that Arsenal has shown strong interest in him, especially in the past few hours.
Bologna does not want to sell Calafiori to Juventus, so the Premier League is the most likely place for him to go. Bologna wants £42.3 million for him because they need to give Basel 50 percent of the sell-on fee.
Next week will be very important in deciding Calafiori’s future.
Arsenal has a great opportunity to sign Calafiori
Calafiori is now considered one of the best defenders in Italy who can handle the ball well.
At 22 years old, he had a great first season at Bologna, where he completed 90 percent of his passes. He also won 71 percent of his aerial duels, made 6.5 recoveries, and 2.5 clearances per game.
The Italian defender also averaged 1.6 tackles and 1.7 interceptions per game. Additionally, he contributed higher up the field with two goals and five assists. We believe he would be an excellent addition to Arsenal’s team.
Calafiori is comfortable playing in central defense or at left-back. His ability to play the ball and his presence in the air would make him better than current players like Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back.
Although Bologna’s asking price is high, Arsenal might still go ahead and sign him to strengthen their chances of winning the league title next season.
If Calafiori joins, Kiwior, who has not been very convincing and looks vulnerable against fast players, might leave the team.
