Arsenal is reportedly getting closer to signing Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino, as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. The club is working hard to secure the talented player from Real Sociedad, where Merino has been one of the standout performers in La Liga. Arsenal is particularly eager to add depth to their midfield, especially with Liverpool showing strong interest in Merino’s teammate, Martin Zubimendi. This has made Arsenal speed up their efforts to sign the 28-year-old Merino.
According to well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Merino. The midfielder has reportedly decided to join the North London club, turning down potential moves to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
The transfer fee being discussed is expected to be more than €25 million. Both Arsenal and Real Sociedad are currently negotiating how the payment will be structured and the terms of the deal. He added that Merino has already agreed to personal terms with Arsenal, and both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have been informed of Merino’s decision to join Arsenal.
