Although I really need Gyokeres but Ruben Amorim has another preferred striker and I can’t opposed him”: Manchester United’s owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe names Ruben Amorim’s preferred striker and it’s not Gyokeres

The next few months are expected to see plenty of transfer speculation when it comes to Manchester United.

The summer transfer window is just a couple of months away from opening and already United are being linked with several potential new signings. It remains to be seen, though, which players will turn out to be genuine targets to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad for next season.
Away from transfers, United are still dealing with the aftermath of their 1-0 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League at the weekend. United’s main focus for the remainder of the campaign will be the Europa League, where they will face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final early next month.
Here, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at some of the latest United transfer news and gossip that has emerged over the last 24 hours.

Viktor Gyokeres ‘update’

United have reportedly learned of Sporting Lisbon’s latest stance regarding the future of striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sweden international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months, and a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola has claimed that Gyokeres could move to the Premier League this summer.

MEN Sport says: Gyokeres has been linked with United for some time, and it should be no surprise to see other clubs mentioned as having an interest in his signature. Whether United will have £60million to spend on a new striker this summer remains to be seen, but if they do, they would be wise to do their best to convince Gyokeres that they are the club he should be joining.

United are reportedly the favourites to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that United are Cunha’s most likely destination if he is to leave Wolves this summer.

United’s striker hunt is clearly heating up — and with both Viktor Gyökeres *and* Matheus Cunha now firmly in the mix, it’s shaping up to be a big summer window.

**On Gyökeres:**
He’s got that perfect blend of physicality, work rate, and goal threat that would suit Ruben Amorim’s high-pressing system — no shock there, considering Amorim coached him at Sporting. But that **£60m release clause** is a major factor. Sporting won’t budge on it, and United would likely need to offload a few players first (like Sancho, Greenwood, or even Hojlund in a swap deal) to make it viable.

**On Matheus Cunha:**
He’s a different profile — more of a second striker or false nine who brings creativity, dribbling, and link-up play. Romano saying United are his *most likely destination* if he leaves Wolves is big. Cunha’s PL experience and versatility make him a smart option if United want a dynamic attacker who can also play off a more traditional No. 9.

**Big picture:**
With Europa League success possibly being the club’s only route into the Champions League next season, attracting someone like Gyökeres will require both money and a strong pitch. Cunha might be more affordable and willing regardless of European football — which makes him a solid fallback if the Swedish striker proves too costly.

Would you prefer United go all-in for Gyökeres as a marquee striker or opt for Cunha’s flair and flexibility?
