Arsenal Set to Face Southampton With Six Key Players Missing Due to Injuries

Arsenal is set to host Southampton at the Emirates Stadium this weekend, with manager Mikel Arteta emphasizing the importance of maintaining their unbeaten streak.

“We’re focused on that,” Arteta responded when asked about the significance of continuing their run against the Saints. “We’ve faced a challenging schedule since the international break, along with unexpected issues like injuries and player availability. However, we’ve adapted well.

“We’re looking ahead and have competed strongly in every match. While there are areas we need to improve, we’ve demonstrated consistency and adaptability in our performances. These are encouraging signs, though it is still early in the season.”

Arteta is optimistic about several players regaining fitness before the upcoming second international break. Currently, Martin Ødegaard is sidelined as he recovers from a foot injury. “Martin’s situation is complex,” Arteta noted on Friday. “I expected him to still be in a boot and dealing with various challenges, but he’s working hard, feels good, and is pushing himself. It’s hard to provide a timeline for his return.”

Two players Arteta hopes to have back for the Southampton match are Ben White and Jurrien Timber, along with Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is also nearing full fitness.

“We had to adjust training for many players,” Arteta explained. “This was the case again today due to their workload. A decision will be made this afternoon regarding their involvement.”
