Pogba Weighing His Next Move as Season Ends
With the season coming to a close, Paul Pogba faces a limited set of options for his next club. Due to transfer window restrictions, his immediate choices are confined to Major League Soccer (MLS) or Japan’s J1 League.
However, the 31-year-old remains focused on securing a move back to one of Europe’s top leagues, ideally to a club competing in the Champions League or Europa League. His ultimate ambition is to earn a place in France’s 2026 World Cup squad, and he believes playing at the highest level in Europe will maximize his chances.
Pogba has already attracted interest from several clubs, including Marseille, Fiorentina, and unnamed LaLiga sides. He has, however, rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League and Brazil’s Serie A, signaling his intent to compete at an elite level.
During his suspension, Pogba maintained his fitness by working with a personal trainer and playing in informal matches in Miami, where he has been residing with his family. Now free to train and compete professionally again, he is carefully considering his next step before making a final decision on his future.
Paul Pogba, having completed an 18-month suspension for a doping violation, is now eligible to return to professional football as of March 11, 2025. During his suspension, Pogba mutually terminated his contract with Juventus and has since been maintaining his fitness independently.
At 31, Pogba is keen to resume playing at a competitive level, aiming to secure a spot in France’s 2026 World Cup squad. Several clubs have expressed interest in acquiring his services:
Marseille: The French club has shown interest, though internal concerns suggest his arrival could be divisive.
Inter Miami: The MLS team, co-owned by David Beckham, is a potential destination, where Pogba could join notable players like Lionel Messi.
Saudi Pro League: Lucrative offers have emerged from Saudi Arabia, where compatriots like N’Golo Kanté and Karim Benzema currently play.
Manchester City: Reports indicate that Manchester City considered Pogba as a potential replacement for the injured Rodri. However, Pogba’s past association with Manchester United and other factors make this move less likely.
Pogba has reportedly rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League and Brazil’s Serie A, indicating his preference to remain in Europe. His decision will likely hinge on aligning with a club that offers both competitive play and the opportunity to participate in European competitions, thereby enhancing his prospects for national team selection.
