Arsenal’s rivals believe Mikel Arteta’s side are leading the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to reports.

Sesko joined RB Leipzig in a €24 million (£20.6m) deal from Red Bull Salzburg last summer and has scored 17 goals in his first season with the Bundesliga club.

The 20-year-old has also impressed at international level, scoring 11 goals in 28 appearances for Slovenia, who are in Group C alongside England at Euro 2024 this summer.

Sesko continues to be monitored by Manchester United and the striker’s agent was in attendance at Old Trafford last Sunday for the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal ‘have strong interest’ in Sesko and are considering a move this summer.

The report adds that rival clubs feel that Arsenal ‘are now in pole position’ to sign Sesko if they follow up with an offer.

According to reports in Germany earlier this month, Sesko’s contract has risen from €50m (£42.8m) in the January transfer window to €65m (£55.7m).

That figure, which is dependent on playing time, goals and assists, could also increase even further to €75m (£64.3m).

Sesko has also attracted interest from Chelsea, who are expected to be in the market for a new striker in the summer window.

Speaking earlier this season, Sesko was adamant that he made the right choice in joining RB Leipzig, despite interest from United.

‘The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations,’ Sesko told Transfermarkt.

‘But I think it was better to come here.

‘It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football.

‘I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.’
