Arsenal Football Club is reportedly renewing its interest in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli, after the Italian club lowered their asking price. The 25-year-old forward is considered one of the best goal-scorers in the world and has attracted attention from other top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, this summer.

Osimhen had an impressive season last year, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 32 matches across various competitions. Arsenal sees him as a potential replacement for their current striker, Eddie Nketiah, and negotiations are reportedly advancing. Arsenal is said to be close to agreeing on an €85 million deal with Napoli, who are willing to accept an offer of around €100 million, despite having initially set a higher release clause of €130 million.

This potential move comes as Arsenal looks to strengthen its squad in order to compete with top teams like Manchester City. The Gunners began the 2024–25 season with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but there is a growing belief that they need a proven goal-scorer to challenge for the Premier League title.

Osimhen, who has two years left on his contract with Napoli, has no plans to leave on loan and appears ready for a permanent move. His goal-scoring prowess was highlighted during Napoli’s 2022–23 season, where he won the Serie A Golden Boot with 26 goals, helping his team secure the Italian league title.

Over the years, Osimhen has built a strong reputation in European football and is highly regarded in his home country, Nigeria. His aggressive playing style and sharp eye for goals have drawn comparisons to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who was known for his strength and determination on the field.

John Obi Mikel, a former Nigerian international and Chelsea midfielder, also compared Osimhen to Drogba earlier this year, noting his confident personality and presence on the pitch. Drogba was famously tough for Arsenal to handle during his time in the Premier League, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists in just 15 games against the Gunners.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would undoubtedly welcome a striker who could have a similar impact, particularly in matches against London rivals. With the transfer window still open, there is a possibility that Arsenal could make a move for Osimhen before it closes, potentially adding a key player to their squad for the upcoming season.
