Arsenal’s ongoing pursuit of Alexander Isak has taken a promising turn as Newcastle United appears to be exploring options for a potential replacement for their star forward. The north London club has maintained interest in the 25-year-old Swedish striker since last summer, and recent challenges in attack have only fueled their determination. Arsenal’s struggles in front of goal, exacerbated by injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka, were glaring in back-to-back defeats against Newcastle and Manchester United this month.

Despite Arsenal’s interest, Newcastle has been reluctant to part ways with Isak, who has been in sensational form this season, netting 15 Premier League goals. Reports suggest that Newcastle has made it clear to Arsenal that any deal would require a bid exceeding £115 million to secure the services of their prolific striker. However, new developments suggest Arsenal might have reason to feel optimistic about their chances of landing the Swedish international.

According to sources, Newcastle has reportedly taken steps to secure Lille striker Jonathan David as a potential addition to their squad. The club’s reported move for the Canadian forward indicates that they may be preparing for a future without Isak. It is claimed that a high-ranking Newcastle official was present during Lille’s recent 2-1 victory over Nice, fueling speculation that the Magpies are eyeing David, whose contract with Lille expires at the end of the season. This opens the door for a free transfer in the summer, putting Newcastle in a strong position to secure his signature.

Jonathan David, who has been vocal about his desire to take on new challenges, has expressed an openness to moving to the Premier League but hasn’t limited himself to England as his only option. In his own words, he stated, “The Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world. But for me, it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything, and every league has its challenges.” His performance on the big stage, such as his impressive display against Liverpool in the Champions League, has likely caught Newcastle’s attention. During that match, David showcased his talent by scoring at Anfield to level the score after Mohamed Salah’s opener, although Lille ultimately lost 2-1 after being reduced to ten men.

It remains uncertain whether Newcastle views David as a direct replacement for Isak or as a complementary partner in their attacking lineup. Regardless of their intentions, securing David’s services would not only strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad but also reduce their reliance on Isak. This move could, in turn, make it easier for Newcastle to consider offers for their Swedish forward, especially if Arsenal were to meet their valuation.

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Isak may hinge on Newcastle’s ability to land David or another high-caliber forward. While Newcastle seems determined to hold on to their star striker, the possibility of a reshaped attack at St. James’ Park could pave the way for Isak’s departure. As the situation unfolds, Arsenal will undoubtedly be watching closely, prepared to make their move should Newcastle signal a willingness to negotiate.
