In a recent discussion on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social, Patrick Vieira expressed his opinion on Arsenal’s forward lineup. Vieira suggested that he would prefer to see Gabriel Jesus, a £45 million player, playing on the left wing for Arsenal.

Vieira, discussing the best and worst strikers in the Premier League, questioned Jesus’ suitability as a striker, emphasizing that his best performances have come from playing in wider positions. In an ideal scenario, Vieira proposed that Arsenal should invest in a top-class number nine, allowing Jesus to shift to the left wing while Gabriel Martinelli takes a spot on the bench.

“I can’t say that Gabriel Jesus is a striker or a number nine. The best seasons he’s had have been from the wide areas,” remarked Vieira during the discussion. He continued, “If we signed a top number nine, I’d put Jesus on the left and Saka on the right, and Martinelli would go on the bench.”

While the idea of benching Martinelli may seem surprising, Vieira emphasized the potential benefits of Arsenal signing another quality striker. Such a move could provide Mikel Arteta with the flexibility to rotate players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli, and the new striker, ensuring each player gets necessary rest.

The discussion raised the question of whether Arsenal truly needs a new striker. While it may not be a pressing need, Vieira suggested that for a club aiming for elite status, having multiple high-end options in various positions is essential.

In conclusion, Patrick Vieira’s viewpoint revolves around optimizing Arsenal’s attacking options by potentially acquiring a top-class number nine and reshuffling the lineup to enhance overall team performance.
