Emma Raducanu speaks for the first time after her heavy defeat to Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells

British tennis star **Emma Raducanu** has broken her silence following a crushing third-round exit from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, where she suffered a heavy 6-1, 6-1 defeat to world No. 6 Amanda Anisimova in just 52 minutes.

The match, played on March 8 or 9, 2026 (depending on session timing), saw Anisimova dominate from the outset with powerful serving, aggressive returns, and relentless pressure that left Raducanu unable to find any rhythm. The British No. 1, seeded 25th, managed only two games total and won a mere fraction of the points played, highlighting a stark contrast to her more encouraging second-round win over qualifier Anastasia Zakharova.

In her post-match interview with Sky Sports, Raducanu spoke candidly about the lopsided encounter and what it revealed about her current level against elite opposition.

“I think in the second round today against Amanda, it was difficult to do that or even get close to putting my stamp on the match,” she said. “And I think that also comes with playing Amanda. She is the type of opponent who likes to put her stamp on the match first, and that was very evident today.”

She continued: “So yeah, obviously you have to take some positives. The first match here was better than a lot of matches I’ve been playing recently, but yeah, a match like that is never easy to take afterwards.”

Raducanu, now 23, acknowledged the overwhelming power difference and the challenge of competing against top players.

“I think she served well and returned and her ball speed was really strong, so I couldn’t really get into the rally I felt,” she reflected. “Against Amanda, it was difficult even to come close to putting my stamp on the match.”

The former US Open champion emphasized the need for greater aggression moving forward, admitting there remains a noticeable “gap” in firepower and mindset when facing such formidable opponents. She described the loss as tough to process but highlighted the value of her stronger showing in the opening match as a step in the right direction amid ongoing efforts to rebuild consistency after injury setbacks and coaching changes.

Anisimova, meanwhile, praised her own fearless approach on court after the win, noting she aimed to enjoy the moment and maintain momentum following a challenging first round.

For Raducanu, the swift exit ends her Indian Wells campaign earlier than hoped, but her honest self-assessment points to clear areas of focus—particularly ramping up aggression and closing the competitive gap—as she looks ahead to the rest of the clay and grass seasons. The tennis world will watch closely to see how the young Brit channels this experience into future improvements.
