FeaturedExclusive: Bruno Guimaraes update as Arsenal ‘agree deal in principle’

Arsenal are set to find a deal for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes “too hard to do” in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the midfielder, 27, in recent days and are keen on the Brazil international – but will struggle to complete a deal in the off-season.

Mikel Arteta‘s side have already agreed in principle to signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi – who has a release clause worth around £51million in his contract.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also set to be in the market for a world-class new striker in the off-season.

Arsenal are actively pursuing midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window, with a particular focus on Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães.

Martín Zubimendi

Negotiations for Zubimendi are reportedly at a “very advanced stage,” with Arsenal working towards finalizing a deal for the Spanish midfielder. The 25-year-old has been a standout performer for Real Sociedad, and his potential arrival is seen as a strategic move to bolster the Gunners’ midfield options.

Bruno Guimarães

Arsenal have also expressed interest in Newcastle’s captain, Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian midfielder has been instrumental in Newcastle’s recent successes, including their Carabao Cup victory. However, securing his transfer may prove challenging due to his importance to Newcastle and his contract running until 2028. Reports suggest that Arsenal’s chances of signing both Guimarães and Zubimendi are slim, with the club likely to prioritize the latter.

Transfer Strategy

Arsenal’s pursuit of these midfield talents aligns with their broader strategy to strengthen the squad, especially with potential departures of current midfielders like Jorginho and Thomas Partey. The club is also in the market for a world-class striker, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez among the targets.

In summary, while Arsenal are making significant strides towards signing Zubimendi, acquiring Guimarães appears less feasible. The club’s focus remains on strategic additions to enhance their competitiveness in the upcoming season.
