Former Tennis Pro Camila Giorgi Steps into Broadcasting Following Abrupt Retirement

Former Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi, once ranked 26th in the world, has embarked on a new career in sports media after her surprising exit from professional tennis last year.

Giorgi, 33, hasn’t played a match since March 2024. Her retirement became official in May 2024 when her name appeared on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s retired list. Following her departure from the sport, she shifted her focus to a modeling career, frequently posting photos from lingerie shoots on her social media and reportedly relocating to the United States.

More recently, however, Giorgi has moved to Argentina. She was recently spotted at the ATP Buenos Aires tournament, not as a player, but as a courtside reporter. In this new role, she conducted interviews with athletes like Seba Báez and Guido Pella for the tournament’s official channels. It is not yet known if this is a temporary engagement or the start of a new career in broadcasting.

A Retirement Followed by Controversy

Giorgi’s transition away from tennis has been marked by several controversies. Last spring, reports surfaced that the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) had lost contact with her for two months, leading to speculation that she had left Italy to avoid tax authorities—an allegation she has publicly denied.

In an October television interview, Giorgi clarified that she did not “disappear,” but that her retirement was made public through official channels before she could announce it herself. She stated she splits her time between Italy and the U.S. and values her privacy.

Further complicating her post-tennis life, a former landlord in Italy has accused her of unpaid rent and removing furniture from a rented property, claims which Giorgi firmly rejects. Additionally, she remains under investigation for allegedly using a fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination certificate to compete in the 2022 Australian Open. Reports indicate a trial is pending, though her lawyer has stated she will plead not guilty and seek a shortened trial process.

Despite these past issues, Giorgi now appears to be building a new life in Argentina with her boyfriend, Ramiro Marra, balancing her new work in media with her modeling pursuits.
