Arsenal are looking to sign Riccardo Calafiori, an Italian defender who had a great season with Bologna. They want to strengthen their defense this season and have several potential targets in mind. Among these targets is Calafiori, although no negotiations have started yet.

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, wants to improve the team’s performance after finishing second to Manchester City last season. Even though Arsenal had the best defensive record last season in the Premier League, Arteta still wants to add a new defender to the squad.

Calafiori became a highly sought-after player during the transfer window after performing well for Italy in Euro 2024. Despite Italy’s early exit from the tournament, the 22-year-old defender stood out with his impressive play.

He had a fantastic season at Bologna, helping them finish third in Serie A. This achievement means Bologna will play in the Champions League for the first time. However, the club is facing changes with their coach, Thiago Motta, moving to Juventus and their star striker, Joshua Zirkzee, potentially joining a Premier League team.

Calafiori seems likely to leave as well, with Arsenal being one of the top contenders to sign him. Other big clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are also interested in him.

Calafiori is praised for his ability to play both left-back and center-back, and for his skill in a hybrid role where he can move into midfield. This versatility has made him attractive to top teams in Europe.

Although Juventus was initially considered the favorite to sign Calafiori, Bologna’s director, Giovanni Satori, thinks he might move to a club outside Italy. He said, “I don’t think he will join Juventus. He might go abroad if we decide to sell him. We’d like to keep him, so we’ll see what happens.”

In other news, Arsenal’s midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga might leave for Sevilla, either permanently or on loan with an obligation to buy.
