According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Merino would be very happy to join Arsenal and return to the Premier League. He feels that he has more to achieve in English football after his short time at Newcastle United. Kieran Tierney, a player for Arsenal, has called Merino “world-class,” and Merino is excited to show his skills in the Premier League after only spending a year at Newcastle.
Even though Atletico Madrid is interested in Merino, he has declined their offer because he prefers to move to Arsenal.
This transfer could happen soon. Arsenal has recently sold Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham, who wanted more playing time. While Merino is a different kind of midfielder, he is seen as an improvement because of his experience, defensive abilities, and creativity. At 28 years old, Merino is at the peak of his career. He would be a good fit for the left central midfield position. He could compete with Kai Havertz for a starting spot or play alongside him if Havertz is placed in a more attacking role.
