Holger Rune Provides Encouraging Update on Achilles Recovery Journey

Danish tennis star Holger Rune continues to share positive developments in his recovery from a severe Achilles tendon rupture, offering fans a glimpse into his determined rehabilitation process nearly two months after surgery.
The 22-year-old suffered the devastating injury during his semifinal match at the Stockholm Open in October 2025 against Ugo Humbert. Leading 6-4, 2-2, Rune collapsed in agony after an awkward movement, clutching his left leg. He was helped off the court in tears, marking a heartbreaking end to his 2025 season.
Quickly confirming the diagnosis—a full proximal Achilles rupture—Rune underwent successful surgery shortly after. He has since been transparent about his progress, frequently posting updates on social media to keep supporters informed and motivated.
Early in recovery, Rune amazed fans by returning to light on-court activity just days post-surgery, hitting forehands and backhands while balancing on one leg with his injured foot in a protective boot.
By late November, Rune progressed to phase two of rehab, removing the walker boot and beginning gym work and controlled movements. His fitness trainer, Marco Panichi—who previously worked with Novak Djokovic—praised Rune as a “quick learner” committed to disciplined load management and quality movement.
Recent updates show further milestones: Rune has started walking again, initially with a crutch and boot, though he admits it’s “still really difficult.” In a December post, he emphasized pushing limits safely: “You can’t stay in bed because you are scared of falling. You need to push within the limits of what you can do… You most certainly can help the healing process by being active within certain frames.”
Support has poured in from peers like Djokovic, Nadal, and Fritz. Rune’s family, including mother Aneke, has been vocal in encouragement, viewing the setback as a “challenge to solve.”
Experts estimate a 9-12 month timeline for full return, likely sidelining him for the Australian Open and possibly French Open, targeting a comeback in the second half of 2026. Despite concerns from some fans about rushing, Rune remains optimistic, focusing on mental and physical growth.
As Rune often shares, he’s enjoying the process “step by step.” His resilience has inspired the tennis community, turning a career low into a testament to perseverance. Fans eagerly await his return to the tour, stronger and ready for new heights.
