Premier League

I could have scored the game-winning goal, but he refused to give me the ball and squandered it, so it is either sell him or I walk away”- Manchester United Bruno Fernandez was upset with a Man United player yesterday for refusing to give the ball to him

Held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against FC Twente, Manchester United started their Europa League season exactly like they had concluded their last Premier League campaign.United began front foot, but Twente closed the space between the lines to irritate Erik ten Hag’s players.

Still, constant mobility kept United looking menacing as Twente’s danger was limited. Coming onto a loose ball in the box, Christian Eriksen handed United a first-half lead with a powerful drive.

The pattern of dominance was the same in the second half before a series of individual errors let Twente explode forward through the center to score a surprising equalizer.

Ten Hag flipped the dice with a triple change, but there was no celebration as United was scheduled to draw frustratingly for la second time in four days.

The gamers gave the following ratings:

Andre Onana: five
Got done by Lammers’ ploy of his striking at the far post just to be defeated at his near post. Had nothing to do different from this.

Mazraoui, Noussair – 7
Apart from one cross-field pass locating the enemy, another flawless game for a player rapidly becoming among the first names on the team sheet.

Harry Maguire—five
An ill-advised sliding challenge in no man’s land left him on his backside as Twente player drove forward through the middle for the second half’s equalizer. Targeting a danger on set pieces

Lisandro Martinez: seven
During the first half, he found himself in an unexpected offensive posture and made most of use of it during a scary time. Certain in defense and quite smooth on the ball.

Diogo Dalot, number six.
Almost entirely responsible for a goal after his nonchalant response resulted in Twente nipping the ball off of him for their best early on chance of the game. Now judged on more exacting standards.

Six Manuel Ugarte
Sometimes seemed behind the game’s tempo and a little too eager to attack the ball and push high, which did not always come off. Precious minutes among fresh colleagues are a benefit.

Christian Eriksen – 7
Scored with a rocket strike to provide United the lead to make three goals in four games. Ignorant of his surroundings, gave the ball away for Twente’s equalizer as he dawdled aimlessly.
Bruno Fernandes – 4
Losing the ball continuously made the Crystal Palace game less than ideal, and today was more of the same. His passes are bold when they come off, maddening when they don’t. For the past two games, that has been the later. summed up by his direct free-kick at the goalie with United’s last opportunity of the game.

Amad – seven
Usually looked to play forward; his two-footedness is quite helpful for the assault. Every time he is on the ball, United looks hazardous. Ten Hag continues revolving his forwards, so came off for garnacho.

Marcus Rashford: 8
Rashford is now back to his best at last. This time there was no goal, but his general level of performance differs completely; best described by a spectacular elastico in the first half, when he may have passed it backwards four games earlier. Was taken off confusingly even though they seemed most frightening.

Joshua Zirkzee, at 6.5
Though he is a hesitant striker who will never be explosive, his link-up skills improve United performance. This represented more of the same. Maybe a Hojlund-Zirkzee cooperation is just around the corner.

Reversals

Alejandro Garnacho number seven ten Hag sent him out with the “defend, defend, defend” message, but when Twente equalised he had to change practically immediately to offensive mode. Was quite intimidating and seemed to be about to do something.

Rasmus Hojlund, six.
Looks rusty as some balls sped into him pinged off of him. Not looking on the same wavelength as his colleagues, therefore needs additional minutes to get sharp once more.

Kobbie Mainoo, Six
Made some decent attacking runs, but also caught on the ball a couple times on, shockingly, his European debut for United.

Mason Mount – six
Pushed constantly, as usual, end result lacking. needs time to recover match rhythm once newest injuries return.Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against FC Twente in their Europa League opener mirrored some of their recent Premier League struggles, where despite early dominance, lapses in concentration cost them. Christian Eriksen’s first-half strike provided a lead, but a series of defensive errors allowed Twente to equalize in the second half. Erik ten Hag’s side maintained possession and control for much of the game, but their inability to capitalize on chances proved costly.

Here are the player ratings based on the performance:

– **Andre Onana (5):** Fooled by Lammers’ shot placement, beaten at the near post. Otherwise, had little to do.
– **Noussair Mazraoui (7):** Another solid performance, apart from one misplaced cross-field pass, becoming a reliable starter.
– **Harry Maguire (5):** His misjudged sliding tackle left United vulnerable for Twente’s equalizer. A set-piece threat but shaky defensively.
– **Lisandro Martinez (7):** Confident in defense, ventured forward during the first half, composed on the ball.
– **Diogo Dalot (6):** Nearly gifted Twente an early goal with a casual error. Needs more consistency.
– **Manuel Ugarte (6):** Struggled with the pace at times, over-committed on some challenges. Gaining experience with new teammates.
– **Christian Eriksen (7):** Scored a stunning goal but was at fault for Twente’s equalizer with a careless giveaway.
– **Bruno Fernandes (4):** Repeatedly lost possession, his passing was erratic and frustrating. Summed up by a poor free-kick late on.
– **Amad (7):** Creative and direct, causing constant danger. His two-footedness added versatility to United’s attack.
– **Marcus Rashford (8):** Back to his best, creating danger throughout with his dribbling and movement. A standout despite not scoring.
– **Joshua Zirkzee (6.5):** Solid link-up play but lacked explosiveness. A potential partnership with Hojlund looks promising.

**Substitutes:**
– **Alejandro Garnacho (7):** Switched quickly from defense to attack after Twente’s equalizer, looked sharp and dangerous.
– **Rasmus Hojlund (6):** Struggled to find his rhythm and cohesion with teammates, but will benefit from more minutes.
– **Kobbie Mainoo (6):** Energetic and made some good runs, though caught out on the ball a few times in his European debut.
– **Mason Mount (6):** Full of energy but lacked end product as he continues to work back to full match fitness post-injury.

Despite a strong start, the inability to kill off the game and defensive errors prevented United from securing a win, leaving Erik ten Hag with more to consider ahead of their next match.
