Manchester United have given the green light for Antony to go out on loan in January, according to Brazilian media

Erik ten Hag appears to have finally seen the light. After an absolutely dismal 2023/24 campaign, Antony has been restricted to just 27 minutes of Premier League football this season, with the Dutch manager clearly having given up on the Brazilian.

The €95 million flop has been nothing short of a disaster signing for the Red Devils and speculation surrounding his future has been rampant for the best part of a year now.

With Antony’s squad player role now confirmed, his camp and Man Utd are looking for a solution. The club were already open to offers for him in the summer, but given his price, it was little surprise that no credible bids came in, though Real Betis reportedly attempted a Deadline Day loan swoop.

Man Utd greenlight Antony exit
A January exit, however, is plausible and perhaps even likely. At least that is according to GOAL Brasil, which claims that Man Utd have agreed to loan Antony out in January.

It is asserted that several Premier League sides have already enquired about the possibility of taking the winger on board in the winter, though it is obviously still too early for a final decision to be made.

Additionally, Ajax are said to be pondering whether a return is feasible, which is an option that is ‘seen positively by the athlete.’ Either way, Antony’s priority is to remain in Europe, casting doubt on some of the more sensational links with a move back to Brazil.

It is not yet clear which Premier League teams are interested in the 24-year-old. Crystal Palace have been linked, but FootballTransfers understands that they have absolutely no interest in moving for Antony

The speculation surrounding Antony’s future at Manchester United underscores his struggles since arriving at Old Trafford in 2022 for a hefty €95 million fee. His performances have often fallen short of expectations, and Erik ten Hag’s decision to restrict his playing time this season reflects a lack of confidence in the Brazilian winger.

Reports from **GOAL Brasil** suggest that United are open to a January loan move, with Antony’s camp actively exploring options. While his return to Ajax has been mentioned as a possibility, Antony’s preference to stay in Europe might lead to interest from other leagues or mid-tier Premier League clubs. However, it’s clear that not all rumored suitors, such as Crystal Palace, have genuine interest.

If Manchester United follow through with this loan move, it could serve as a turning point for Antony, allowing him to regain form and confidence elsewhere. For United, offloading him temporarily might also alleviate squad pressure and provide Ten Hag the opportunity to reinvest resources into other areas of need.

Regarding Jose Mourinho’s reported criticism, it aligns with his no-nonsense approach. If true, his remarks suggest he views Antony as a symbol of United’s missteps in the transfer market, advocating for a squad overhaul to achieve success. However, whether Antony’s potential departure alone can resolve United’s deeper issues remains debatable.
