“I spoke to him, and he promised to help us win champions league this season”: Gabriel Jesus is buzzing for Mikel Arteta’s £72m summer signing

“I had a chat with him, and he promised to help us secure victory in the Champions League this season,” shared Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, expressing his excitement about teammate Kai Havertz, a £72 million summer signing for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Reflecting on their previous encounter in the 2021 final between Manchester City and Chelsea, where Havertz’s goal led to a 1-0 victory for the Blues, Jesus mentioned their friendly banter.

“We always joke about him winning the Champions League against me, and now I want to win it with him and Jorginho! He’s an amazing player—strong, tall, and with great quality, always giving his best.”

After both players scored crucial goals in Arsenal’s recent 2-0 win against Brighton, the team is set to face FC Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League. The aim is to break a three-year trophy drought for the club.

Havertz and Jesus, both contributing significantly to Arsenal’s recent successes, hope to replicate their positive influence in the upcoming Champions League fixtures. Arsenal’s last encounter with Portuguese opposition in 2010 resulted in a 6-1 aggregate victory, propelling them to the quarter-finals.

When asked about Havertz’s impact on the team, Jesus playfully responded, “He brings a lot to the team. We always joke about him winning the Champions League against me, but now I genuinely want to win it with him.

He’s an incredible player—strong, tall, and his quality is evident. Like me, he’s quiet but always fights and supports the team. His addition has been immense, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.”
