“I understand and I found out directly from the player’s agent that one of our players is off to join them – Arsenal star responds to reports he’s agreed to join Arsenal’s Premier League rivals

Arsenal misfit Aaron Ramsdale responds to reports he’s agreed to join Newcastle

Aaron Ramsdale has addressed rumors suggesting he has reached an agreement to leave Arsenal for Newcastle United during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021 for £24 million and quickly established himself as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. Over his first two seasons in North London, he made 78 appearances, solidifying his position. However, the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford has cast doubt on Ramsdale’s future at the club. This season, the England international has been limited to just six Premier League appearances under manager Mikel Arteta.

Raya is expected to join Arsenal permanently this summer, leading to widespread speculation that the Gunners are open to listening to offers for Ramsdale, who has two years left on his current contract. Chelsea, long-time admirers of Ramsdale, have been closely monitoring the situation, as their manager Mauricio Pochettino has been alternating between goalkeepers Dorde Petrovic and Robert Sanchez this season.

On a recent episode of Highbury Squad, Sky Sports journalist James Green claimed that Ramsdale had agreed to join Newcastle. Green stated, “I understand and found out directly from the player’s agent that one of our players is off to Newcastle and a deal has been agreed. It’s my understanding that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle in the summer. This information comes from someone very close to his agent.”

Despite these claims, Ramsdale took to Twitter on Friday evening to deny the rumors. He tweeted, “News to me [laughing emoji],” directly refuting the speculation about a deal with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

Arteta’s handling of Ramsdale has been a divisive issue among Arsenal fans. Jens Lehmann, a former Arsenal goalkeeper and member of the legendary Invincibles squad, expressed his confusion over Ramsdale’s sudden drop in the pecking order. In an interview with The Daily Mail, Lehmann said, “I never understood the Ramsdale decision. If you have a good, brave English ‘keeper at a big English club doing well, why bring in a Spanish guy who has never played at that level? The ‘keeper is the most important position in the team. If I were Ramsdale, I don’t know how I would react because it’s not easy at that age. When you’re older, it’s different.”

David Seaman, another former Arsenal and England goalkeeper, believes Ramsdale should leave Arsenal to further his career. Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, he mentioned Chelsea and West Ham as potential destinations. “You aren’t going to develop being a number two. You’re going to get left behind in the pecking order because other goalkeepers will start playing,” Seaman said. “As an Arsenal fan, I don’t really want Aaron Ramsdale to go. But as an ex-England goalkeeper, I want to see another keeper developing. I think he could go to Chelsea or West Ham to get more first-team action.”

The situation has sparked a debate among Arsenal supporters about whether Arteta has been fair in his treatment of Ramsdale. The decision to bring in competition has undoubtedly affected Ramsdale’s standing at the club, leading to uncertainty about his future.
