Gabriel Jesus has been facing challenges at Arsenal due to a knee injury he got during the 2022 Qatar World Cup while playing for Brazil. The 26-year-old expressed that it’s been tough, but he’s gradually returning to normalcy in his game after playing in the latter part of the previous season and during pre-season.

Speaking at Arsenal’s press conference before their pre-season match against Barcelona, Jesus acknowledged the difficulty but emphasized his ongoing efforts to improve his fitness and strength for the upcoming Premier League season.

Last summer, Arsenal invested £45 million in Jesus, hoping to leverage his experience from winning four Premier League titles with Manchester City. Despite a promising start, his momentum was disrupted by the World Cup injury, and even though he returned for the final months, he wasn’t fully recovered.

Before the upcoming pre-season match against Barcelona, Jesus shared insights into his injury and recovery, stating, “Comparing with my injury on my foot in 2017, it’s so different. This is my first injury, and I hope it’s the last one on the knee. Now, I am suffering a little bit more than my foot. It’s been hard. I am working hard to get fitness and then come back strong.”

Addressing his transformation, Jesus affirmed, “Yes, for sure. I want to help. I want to work. I want to learn from the Mister (Mikel Arteta) and with the players as well.”

While many focus on Jesus’s goal-scoring abilities, he plays a multifaceted role for the team. Beyond goals, he contributes by pulling opponents out of position, creating chaos on the wings, and opening up spaces for teammates. This was evident in the improved goal-scoring performances of players like Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and the now-departed Granit Xhaka in the last season.
