“Its good as the statement has been released so that the fans will see who Mason Greenwood really is. Everyone wants to see his career ruined. He needs to come back to Manchester United “-Spanish FA release Mason Greenwood statement as Getafe red card decision changed
Mason Greenwood’s potential suspension from playing in four matches for Getafe has been canceled after the Spanish Football Association (FA) successfully appealed the decision.
The 21-year-old, on loan from Manchester United, was shown a red card during Getafe’s recent 2-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano for dissent, allegedly uttering inappropriate language towards the referee.
Upon Getafe’s appeal, the Spanish FA intervened and reversed the decision, clarifying that Greenwood’s comments were a complaint about fouls committed against him rather than directly aimed at the referee.
The Spanish FA emphasized that its role is not to re-officiate matches but to identify any clear errors in the referee’s description of events. After reviewing the footage, the committee determined that the referee’s account did not accurately depict the incident, thus proving a manifest material error.
The committee noted that video evidence showed Greenwood saying, ‘One, two, three, four, f***.’ If Greenwood had retained the red card, he could have faced a potential four-game suspension. However, he participated in Getafe’s 1-0 victory against RCD Espanyol on Saturday after the successful appeal.
The referee’s post-match report originally stated, “In the 50th minute, the player (12) Greenwood, Mason Will John, was sent off for addressing me in a sign of protest and raising his arm, in the following terms: ‘F*** you.’ Once sent off, he takes the finger to the temple, making a repeated gesture as a sign of disagreement with the decision made.”
Greenwood joined Getafe on loan during the summer transfer window after Manchester United decided he should continue his career elsewhere.
This decision came in the wake of protests from Old Trafford fans regarding Greenwood’s inclusion in Erik ten Hag’s squad, following a domestic abuse court case. Although charges were dropped by the CPS, United conducted an internal investigation, leading to Greenwood’s loan move to Getafe.
