Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi seems to have made up his mind, leaning towards a move to Arsenal as his stint in Spain nears its end. Despite interest from Norwich City and previous connections with Manchester United, the 24-year-old midfielder appears to be leaning towards the Gunners.

Zubimendi has been a standout player for Real Sociedad since he burst onto the scene in the 2019/20 season and cemented his place as a regular starter the following season. While not one to dazzle with flashy plays, he brings a style reminiscent of Sergio Busquets, although not quite reaching the heights of the Barcelona legend in his prime.

With 172 appearances for Sociedad and four captaincy titles for Spain under his belt, Zubimendi has caught the eye of top clubs across Europe. While Manchester United was once linked with him, it’s Arsenal who seem to be leading the race for his signature.

Recent reports from Spanish newspaper Nacional suggest that Zubimendi has chosen Arsenal, dealing a blow to their Premier League rivals, Manchester United. Arsenal are reportedly willing to meet his buyout clause of €60 million (£51 million), showing their eagerness to secure one of Sociedad’s prized assets.

Initially hesitant to leave Sociedad, Zubimendi seems to have come to terms with the idea, opening the door for a possible move to the Premier League. Arsenal’s pursuit has gained momentum with Zubimendi turning down a move to Barcelona, leaving the Catalan giants out of contention.

Despite interest from other clubs like Aston Villa and Athletic Bilbao, Arsenal are firmly in control of the situation to land Zubimendi. However, any transfer is unlikely to happen this month due to Premier League regulations, which necessitate a move in the summer.

Moreover, Arsenal would have to pay the buyout clause in one go, posing a financial challenge that might require player sales. With manager Mikel Arteta also eyeing a new striker, Arsenal are considering options such as Ivan Toney from Brentford, although his hefty price tag of £100 million could be a hurdle.

As Arsenal persist in their pursuit of Zubimendi, securing his signature would be a major win for Arteta’s side, strengthening their midfield with a talented player who could make a significant impact in the Premier League.
