Barcelona is reportedly showing interest in acquiring two Arsenal players, according to the Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo. The Catalan club is exploring its options for the upcoming January transfer window and has identified Jorginho and Kai Havertz as potential targets.
However, it seems both players remain integral to Arsenal’s plans for the future. Jorginho, the Italian international, has experienced reduced playing time this season due to the arrival of Declan Rice. Despite this, both Jorginho and his agent have been clear that they are not considering a move away from the Emirates Stadium. His contract with Arsenal runs until 2024, with an option for the club to extend it for another year.
Kai Havertz, who joined Arsenal in a high-profile transfer from Chelsea, has also faced challenges in his initial months with the North London club. Despite a rocky start, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his confidence in the German playmaker. In a recent press conference, Arteta stated his commitment to helping Havertz succeed, saying, “I want to try to help him as much as possible. Be next to him, give him the tools, give him the confidence, and give him the minutes to exploit his talent. There are many aspects of his game that he’s doing exceptionally well, and we know which areas need improvement.”
Arteta emphasized the importance of supporting players, especially those who consistently demonstrate dedication and effort. He mentioned that if a player like Havertz doesn’t perform, the responsibility partly lies with the coaching staff. “You give them support and more tools, and if they don’t perform, it’s because of us,” Arteta added.
The report from Spain suggests that Barcelona’s interest is driven by a belief that the January transfer window will present more opportunities, similar to last summer when they secured Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo on loan. Barcelona is reportedly hoping to acquire players who were once considered marquee signings at a lower cost. Jorginho and Havertz fit this profile according to the club’s assessment.
Arsenal spent €11.3 million to sign Jorginho from Chelsea, a deal that saw his market value at the time estimated at €35 million, now reduced to €25 million. Similarly, Arsenal paid €75 million to sign Havertz, whose market value has remained steady at €55 million.
Whether Barcelona will make a formal approach for Jorginho or Havertz remains uncertain, but the fact that the club has identified them as potential targets indicates they are preparing for an active transfer window. With ambitions to return to the pinnacle of European football, Barcelona aims to attract some of the continent’s most experienced talents to the Camp Nou.
