JUST IN: Arsenal Sporting Director says Arsenal are ready to break the bank for £250k-p/w world class striker with a record transfer fee of over £100M
Arsenal and Chelsea are vying to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, despite stiff competition. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Premier League clubs are still in the race for the Nigerian forward, even though he recently extended his contract with Napoli. This new deal, however, includes a buyout clause worth £111 million, making a transfer possible.
Osimhen’s impressive performance has drawn significant interest. Last season, he scored 31 goals, helping Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades. Despite dealing with injuries and national team commitments this season, he has still managed to net 10 goals in 20 appearances, showcasing his consistent talent and resilience.
Jacobs, speaking to Givemesport, noted that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is also in the mix. The French club is expected to free up funds with the anticipated departure of Kylian Mbappe, and they have Osimhen high on their list of potential signings. However, the striker reportedly prioritizes a move to the Premier League, which is good news for Arsenal and Chelsea.
“Arsenal cannot be ruled out in the race for Osimhen,” Jacobs said. “PSG are very keen on him, especially with the financial flexibility that Mbappe’s exit will provide. But sources indicate that Osimhen prefers the Premier League, which is promising for both Arsenal and Chelsea. He is seeking a salary of around £250,000 per week, a figure that these clubs, along with PSG, are willing to meet.”
Osimhen’s preference adds an interesting dynamic to the transfer saga. His childhood admiration for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba gives the Blues an edge in his decision. Nevertheless, Arsenal’s current form might make them a more attractive option. Mikel Arteta’s squad is performing exceptionally well, challenging Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title, while Chelsea is undergoing a rebuilding phase and languishing in the lower half of the table.
The battle for Osimhen is far from over, and his ultimate decision could hinge on various factors, including the potential for immediate success, personal preferences, and financial considerations. As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal and Chelsea fans will be watching closely to see where the prolific striker will land.
