“Let Arteta stop forcing this guy. He’s not just good enough to be playing against top teams and he’s the reason Arsenal will be going trophyless again this season”- Chelsea and Arsenal Legend Ashley Cole says 24-m years old Arsenal star isn’t just good enough to be playing against top teams like Liverpool, Man City and Man U
Former Arsenal player Ashley Cole expressed concerns about 24-year-old Eddie Nketiah’s ability to perform in crucial matches. Following Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup, Cole suggested that Nketiah may not be up to par for big games.
In the recent match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta surprised everyone by selecting Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz as the front three, with Havertz leading the line. Despite some positive moments from Havertz, he struggled to convert opportunities into goals.
Eddie Nketiah only played for nine minutes, and football analyst Alan Shearer noted that he might have been frustrated watching his team miss chances in the attacking third.
Kevin Campbell weighed in, pointing out that Nketiah doesn’t offer the same quality as Gabriel Jesus in the forward position.
Ashley Cole, speaking on TalkSPORT, emphasized Arsenal’s lack of depth in the attacking department. He mentioned that Arsenal’s playing style is more suited to players like Jesus, and when he’s not performing well, it affects the entire team. Cole expressed doubt that Nketiah’s style of play is suitable for facing top-tier teams, posing a significant problem for Arsenal.
Despite Gabriel Jesus being unavailable due to a knee injury, Havertz led the line in the Liverpool clash. While Arsenal displayed fluidity in their attacking play, they lacked the clinical finishing required to secure goals.
Nketiah has previously showcased his finishing abilities for Arsenal, but Cole argued that he may not be a top-level goalscorer at the moment. Acknowledging Nketiah’s capacity to contribute when needed, Cole suggested that Arteta might be looking to strengthen the striker position in the upcoming months to enhance the team’s options.
