Man Utd could hijack Premier League rivals’ £25m deal as ‘offer submitted’ for No.1 target to replace Luke Shaw
Manchester United will kick off their new Premier League season at home against Fulham on Friday.
However, manager Erik ten Hag will have to begin the 2024/25 campaign without Luke Shaw, who is sidelined due to a calf injury.
On Tuesday, the club issued a statement concerning Shaw’s injury.
“Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training,” the statement read.
“He is working hard on his rehabilitation with the aim of being available after the first international break.”
This summer, Manchester United has already strengthened their squad, having signed Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Yet, it appears that Ten Hag is still in the market for an additional defender.
According to a new report from Turkish media via Sport Witness, Manchester United has made an offer for Ferdi Kadioglu.
The Red Devils are competing with Brighton for the Turkish right-back’s signature.
Brighton is in negotiations to sign Kadioglu, while Manchester United hopes to intervene in the transfer.
The 24-year-old is reportedly eager to leave Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League. Both Manchester United and Brighton are vying for his signature, with the report suggesting they have proposed different deals.
The Red Devils have offered more in the initial payment, while the Seagulls’ offer is higher when including add-ons.
Ten Hag’s interest in Kadioglu follows a season in which Shaw managed to play only 12 league games.
Shaw’s 2023/24 campaign was plagued by injuries, and he played a limited role at Euro 2024, starting just one match for England.Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League season opener against Fulham will take place without Luke Shaw, who is recovering from a calf injury. The club announced that Shaw, who has been dealing with this injury since pre-season, is expected to return after the first international break. Shaw’s absence is a concern, especially after a 2023/24 season marred by injuries, limiting him to just 12 league appearances and one start for England at Euro 2024.
To address their defensive needs, Manchester United has already bolstered their squad with the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. However, manager Erik ten Hag is still seeking additional reinforcements and has reportedly turned his attention to Fenerbahce’s versatile right-back, Ferdi Kadioglu.
Manchester United faces competition from Brighton for the 24-year-old Turkish international, who is eager to leave Fenerbahce following their failure to qualify for the Champions League. Reports suggest that Manchester United has offered a higher initial payment, while Brighton’s deal is more attractive when add-ons are included. Kadioglu’s potential arrival would add depth and flexibility to United’s defense as they aim to cope with Shaw’s absence and strengthen their backline for the season ahead.
