Manchester United Eyeing Young Croatian Talent as ‘Next Modric’

Manchester United are closely monitoring Martin Baturina, a young Croatian playmaker who has drawn comparisons to Luka Modric due to his impressive skill set. The Red Devils have shifted their focus to scouting and signing emerging talents, and Baturina, who plays for Dinamo Zagreb, has caught their eye.
Recent reports from Croatian outlet Germanijak reveal that Manchester United scouts have been keeping a close watch on Baturina, particularly during Croatia’s Nations League match against Portugal. The 21-year-old midfielder is reportedly high on United’s wishlist as they seek to bolster their squad with promising young players.

Baturina has quickly gained attention for his performances, and comparisons to Modric are inevitable given his similar style of play and his development at Dinamo Zagreb. Unlike Modric, Baturina tends to play a more advanced role as a number 10, although he is versatile enough to operate on the flanks or even as a holding midfielder when needed.

Croatian sports agent Zdravko Mamic has praised Baturina’s potential, comparing him favorably to Modric and Dani Olmo. “There’s another little one, Martin Baturina, who is on par with Modric or Olmo,” Mamic said. “Time will tell if he surpasses them, but this kid showed more promise than they did at his age.”

Interest in Baturina extends beyond Manchester United, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Leeds United also reportedly pursuing the young star. Despite Leeds’ £25 million bid and Fiorentina’s efforts to sign him, Baturina chose to remain with Dinamo Zagreb for the time being.

With his contract running until 2028, Dinamo Zagreb holds significant leverage in negotiations. Baturina has already made 126 senior appearances, contributing 48 goals and assists combined, and has been capped four times by Croatia. His strong start to the 2024/25 season, with five assists in his first six games, underscores his potential.

Manchester United are also monitoring PSG’s Xavi Simons as a potential alternative, but Baturina remains a top target for their midfield overhaul.
Manchester United’s interest in Martin Baturina highlights their strategy to invest in emerging talent. The young Croatian playmaker, compared to Luka Modric due to his skill set and playing style, has made a strong impression at Dinamo Zagreb. His versatility and recent performances, including a notable start to the 2024/25 season, make him an attractive prospect.

With Manchester United competing with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Leeds United for Baturina, Dinamo Zagreb’s firm stance and Baturina’s contract extending until 2028 give them considerable negotiating power. Meanwhile, United’s alternative interest in PSG’s Xavi Simons suggests they are exploring multiple options to strengthen their midfield.
