Laurie Whitwell, a journalist from *The Athletic*, has provided a recent update on the situation.
Whitwell reported in the publication, “Manchester United are currently negotiating with Arsenal to agree on a compensation fee for Chido Obi-Martin, following the completion of his medical at Carrington.”
“Obi-Martin, the 16-year-old forward, has largely agreed on personal terms with United, and the next step in the transfer process is for Arsenal to settle on a transfer fee.”
Whitwell further added, “The general expectation is that these negotiations will conclude positively, avoiding the need to escalate the matter to a Premier League tribunal.”
Whitwell also noted that “Once a fee is settled, given Obi-Martin’s age, the Premier League will need to undergo a ratification process, which might extend over several weeks. He is being viewed as a prospect for the academy rather than an immediate addition to Erik ten Hag’s first team.”
The expectation within the club is that Obi-Martin will initially join United’s U18 and U21 squads, but he will also be given opportunities to train with the senior team as deemed appropriate.
