The 24-year-old defender, who joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 for about £15 million, has not featured for the club since undergoing knee surgery last summer.

In truth, the Dutch left-back’s last appearance for the Reds was on May 28, 2023.

Malacia was thought to be nearing a comeback to first-team play in February, but Erik ten Hag announced a month later that he would most certainly miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

“I believe it will be tough for this season to be available,” he stated at the time.

Malacia’s absence of social media engagement has caused alarm among admirers. His final Instagram post occurred on July 11, 2023, and his last tweet came only days after.

However, on Saturday afternoon, he joined his United colleagues on the Wembley pitch after they won this season’s FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

Fans were ecstatic to see the defender return after such a long absence.

One added, “Can’t tell you how delighted I am to see Malacia,” while another said, “Is Tyrell Malacia in line for a medal????”

A third remarked, “It’s great to see Tyrell Malacia out there with the United players enjoying their FA Cup victory. Hopefully, we will see in action next season.”
Erik ten Hag referenced the defense in a recent interview with Voetbal International.

“Tyrell Malacia did not play a single minute of football this season,” he explained. “In reality, he didn’t spend a single second on the training pitch. We hired him as a backup for Luke Shaw.”
