Manchester United would only contemplate selling Marcus Rashford should he tell the club he wants a move and if a ‘substantial’ bid comes in, according to a report.

Rashford has faced difficulty maintaining strong form throughout the 2023/24 season, with only eight goals and five assists across 40 matches for Manchester United.Reports from Monday indicate that the club might consider transferring Rashford as part of their summer restructuring efforts, with Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund being the only players deemed untouchable.

Thus, Rashford could potentially be sold, but The Athletic suggests that this would hinge on two conditions being met simultaneously.

Firstly, United would need to receive a substantial offer for him, and secondly, Rashford would have to request a transfer for the offer to be seriously entertained.

United’s preference is to retain Rashford and assist him in regaining the exceptional form he showed in the 2022/23 season, where he scored a career-high 30 goals and added 10 assists in 56 matches.

Earlier this year, 90min reported that Paris Saint-Germain had listed Rashford as one of four potential candidates to replace Kylian Mbappe. Rashford had discussions with PSG in 2022 and 2023 but perceived their interest as a means to negotiate a new contract with United, eventually signing a £325,000-per-week deal last summer.

United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed public support for Rashford, who has recently addressed the criticism he has faced this season.

“I have a lot of sympathy for Rashy,” Ten Hag commented before the 1-1 draw with Burnley. “He had an outstanding season last year, scoring 30 goals, which was the best of his career. This season, his performances haven’t matched those levels, and people have been very critical. I believe we need to support him. Everyone should back him and encourage him to return to last year’s form.

“He needs support. We know his potential and need to help him improve. He can perform better than he has this year, as demonstrated by his remarkable performance last year.” Marcus Rashford’s 2023/24 season has been challenging, with only eight goals and five assists in 40 appearances for Manchester United. As part of the club’s potential summer restructuring, there have been reports suggesting that Rashford could be considered for transfer. However, this possibility hinges on two key conditions: United receiving a substantial offer and Rashford himself requesting a move.

Despite these conditions, Manchester United’s preference is to keep Rashford and help him regain the exceptional form he displayed in the 2022/23 season, where he achieved a career-high of 30 goals and 10 assists. Erik ten Hag, the club’s manager, has publicly supported Rashford, emphasizing the need for the club and fans to back him during this difficult period.

Rashford had previously attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain, especially as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappé, but he ultimately stayed at United, signing a significant contract last summer. Ten Hag has expressed his belief in Rashford’s potential and the importance of supporting him to return to his best form.
