Me and my Fiance has fimally concluded on what to do next. It was a hard decision but we have to do it. I will start training with them soon”-Greenwood finally breaks silence as he made his final decisions on playing for Manchester United which shocked the fans who couldn’t believe their eyes.
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has reportedly agreed to a stunning transfer away from Old Trafford this summer.
Greenwood, 22, is due to return to United in the coming weeks after a successful spell on loan at Spanish club Getafe, where he scored eight goals and provided six assists in La Liga – winning the club’s Player of the Year award in the process.
Greenwood has not featured for United since his arrest in January 2022 for attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault – charges that were later dropped. The player denied all allegations against him.
While United confirmed earlier this week that Greenwood had been retained by the club, it looks certain he will continue his career away from Old Trafford.Several top European clubs have been linked with a move for the forward, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund among a group of potential suitors abroad.
Meanwhile, reports claim two unnamed Premier League side are also interested in Greenwood.
However, he now looks likely to move to Italy instead.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via The Metro), Greenwood has already said ‘yes’ over a proposed move to Serie A giants Juventus.
United are said to be willing to sell Greenwood and have set an asking price of between €35-40m (£30-34m) this summer.
Juventus are confident they can negotiate a lower fee and are looking to find ‘advantageous formulas’ to get the deal over the line.
It is claimed Juve could use one of Samuel Iling-Junior or Federico Chiesa in a potential swap deal for Greenwood, who is entering the final year of his contract at United.
Greenwood has kept tight-lipped over his future, although he thanked Getafe in a rare public statement at the end of his loan with the Spanish club.
“Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season, thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club,” Greenwood posted on Instagram.
“A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.”United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said in April that no decision had been made on Greenwood’s future at the club.
He had previously suggested the door could be open for the player to return, despite the potential backlash from supporters. We will make a decision, correct,” said Ratcliffe.
“All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if he is a good person or not?
“He’s a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football.
“So the answer is, ‘Yeah, we have to make decisions.’ It’s quite clear we have to make a decision.
“There is no decision that’s been made. He’s on-loan obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.” Mason Greenwood is reportedly on the verge of leaving Manchester United for Juventus, following a successful loan spell at Getafe where he scored eight goals and provided six assists. Despite charges against him being dropped, Greenwood hasn’t played for United since his arrest in January 2022. United is willing to sell him for €35-40m (£30-34m), though Juventus aims to negotiate a lower fee, potentially involving a swap deal with Samuel Iling-Junior or Federico Chiesa. While Greenwood has expressed gratitude to Getafe, his future at United remains uncertain, pending a final decision from the club’s management.
