Mikel Arteta finally confirmed Timber and Tomiyasu injury return dates following West Ham loss ‘Zinchenko is finally going back to bench’
Mikel Arteta has officially announced Timber and Tomiyasu’s injury recovery dates following West Ham’s defeat ‘Zinchenko is finally going back to the bench’
On Thursday night, Arsenal fell to West Ham United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. In a difficult evening for the Gunners, goals from Tomas Soucek and Konstantinos Mavropanos grabbed all three points for Kladivars.
There were no new injuries for Mikel Arteta’s team ahead of this weekend’s Premier League encounter against Fulham. Last season, the North Londoners won 3-0 thanks to goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli.
With that in mind, here is the most recent Arsenal injury news and projected return dates as we approach the halfway point of the 2023/24 season.
Thomas Partey
According to football.london, Partey has undergone a “procedure” that will keep him out till the end of the year. Arteta recently released updated details on Partey’s rehabilitation process, but did not say whether the 30-year-old will be ready for the FA Cup third round match against Liverpool in early 2024. Arsenal hopes to have Partey back in time for the FA Cup match against Liverpool before the AFCON.

Expected date of return: Liverpool (H) – January 7.
“Nothing has changed yet,” Arteta remarked. Unfortunately, those two [Partey and Tomiyasu] will not be available until later.”
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu suffered a calf injury in the second half of Arsenal’s game against Wolves and is anticipated to be sidelined till the New Year. Tomiyasu is expected to return for Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Liverpool, after which he will travel to Japan for the Asian Cup.
Injury.
Expected return: January
What Arteta said: “No, nothing has changed yet. Unfortunately we will not have the two (Partey and Tomiyasu) available yet.”
Fabio Vieira
Vieira suffered an injury to his lower leg and required surgery to repair it. So far, the former Porto star has struggled for playing time under Arteta, and his current issue is sure to exacerbate matters.
Injury: groin
Expected return date: mid to late January 2024
“Yes, we have a problem with him,” Arteta stated. He was in some pain. We referred him to a specialist, who recommended a groin procedure. He did it the day before. We don’t anticipate him returning until after the Christmas break.”
Jurrien Timber
Timber, who joined Arsenal from Ajax last summer, was injured on the first weekend of the Premier League season. The 22-year-old defender tumbled and twisted his right knee at the end of Arsenal’s first-half play against Nottingham Forest.
Timbers’ ACL injury was not as catastrophic as first thought, and he is now projected to return between March and May of next year. Because he was last seen on Arsenal’s club trip to Rwanda, fans are hoping to see the former Ajax star in action before the end of the current season.
Injury: anterior cruciate ligament
Expected return date: early 2024
What Arteta said: “He’s doing really well. He is coming off a really bad injury, but he is still in good shape at the stage he is at now. It’s very pleasing to see him working every day.
“He will be missed for a long time. The first steps are crucial because of the work he has to do on his knee to regain mobility and strength.”
