Arsenal might try to interfere with Liverpool’s plans to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer, according to journalist David Lynch.
Arsenal is focusing on improving their midfield during this transfer window and has been linked to many players in recent weeks.
Earlier in the window, Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana, and Bruno Guimaraes were considered potential targets. However, Luiz has since moved to Juventus, and Onana has joined Aston Villa.
Along with them, Zubimendi was also a significant target for Arsenal. But it seemed like Arsenal lost interest in him and instead turned their attention to his teammate, Mikel Merino, to strengthen their midfield.
Arsenal has already agreed on personal terms with Merino and is negotiating with Real Sociedad to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is also looking at signing Zubimendi to strengthen their midfield before the transfer window closes.
David Lynch mentioned on his YouTube channel that other clubs might try to sign Zubimendi, and Arsenal could be one of them if they decide to renew their interest. However, Lynch also pointed out that Arsenal seems to be focused on other midfield targets right now, so they might not pursue Zubimendi before the window closes.
Lynch said:
“It’s worth mentioning that now this news is out there, there’s always a possibility that other clubs could come in and compete for his signature. Whether that’s Arsenal maybe reigniting their interest, although it seems that they’ve got other midfield targets.”
Reports indicate that Zubimendi has a £51 million release clause in his contract. Therefore, Arsenal would need to pay a large fee to sign the Spanish player.
It will be interesting to see if Arsenal decides to make a formal offer for Zubimendi before the transfer window ends.
