OFFICIAL NOW: Manchester United has successfully completed the signing of a player priced at forty million pounds, a champions league winner. The player is now in London and will face a medical test tomorrow.

According to Spanish media reports, Manchester United has successfully negotiated a deal to acquire Miguel Gutierrez from Girona. The 22-year-old defender, who previously played for Real Madrid, was part of the squad that secured both the La Liga title and the Champions League trophy two years ago.

Gutierrez has significantly developed his career over the past two years, particularly under the guidance of Girona’s manager, Michel. His current contract with the La Liga club extends until 2027, and he earns a modest salary of approximately £280,000 annually.

Interestingly, Real Madrid holds an option to repurchase Gutierrez this summer for a mere 8 million euros, as reported by Cadena Ser.Despite this, reports from The Express, citing Spanish sources, indicate that Real Madrid has opted to activate the buy-back clause only to finalize a £34 million deal to transfer Gutierrez to Manchester United.

The Premier League club is keen to bring in the left-back as a replacement for Luke Shaw.

During the last season, Gutierrez showcased his versatility by contributing effectively in both defensive and offensive roles.

He started 35 league matches, netted 2 goals, provided 7 assists, and played a crucial part in helping Girona achieve 12 clean sheets, ultimately securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League.

Luke Shaw, despite his long-standing service to Manchester United, has struggled with injuries throughout his career.

Under Erik ten Hag’s management last season, Shaw was limited to just 12 Premier League starts due to persistent muscle issues.

Given Shaw’s injury history, Manchester United has identified the need for a reliable replacement, and Gutierrez appears to be a suitable candidate.

However, the young Spaniard will have to forgo Champions League football next season to join Manchester United.Miguel Gutierrez’s transfer to Manchester United from Girona has been strategically orchestrated. Real Madrid exercised their buy-back option for €8 million, subsequently facilitating a £34 million deal with Manchester United. This move addresses Manchester United’s need for a reliable left-back, given Luke Shaw’s recurrent injuries, limiting him to 12 Premier League starts last season.

Gutierrez, 22, has demonstrated significant growth at Girona under Michel’s guidance, with his versatility shining in both defensive and offensive roles. His performance last season was notable, contributing 2 goals, 7 assists, and helping Girona secure 12 clean sheets and a UEFA Champions League spot. Despite forgoing Champions League football next season, Gutierrez’s move to Manchester United presents a promising opportunity to fortify their defense.
