‘ON ONE CONDITION’ – Arsenal handed transfer reality as Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes breaks silence on playing Champions League football next season
Eddie Howe Addresses Bruno Guimaraes’ Emotional Gesture Following Newcastle’s Win Over Brentford
Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, has downplayed rumors that star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was bidding farewell to fans after their 4-2 victory over Brentford, amidst interest from top clubs Arsenal and Manchester City.
In their final Premier League match of the season, Newcastle triumphed in west London, with Guimaraes delivering a standout performance. He provided two assists and scored a goal himself, significantly contributing to the team’s success.
After the match, the Brazilian international was seen waving and gesturing emotionally towards the Newcastle supporters who had traveled to the game. This sparked speculation that he might be leaving the club, especially since he has a £100 million release clause in his contract, which could be activated next month. Both Manchester City, the league champions, and Arsenal, the runners-up, are reportedly considering making a move for him.
Despite the speculation, Howe urged fans not to overinterpret Guimaraes’ actions. He expressed his hope that the midfielder would remain with Newcastle next season. When asked about Guimaraes’ post-match gesture, Howe responded, “I don’t think it’s a wave goodbye. Bruno probably does that many times but it can be interpreted in a way that people watching decide that’s the case. Certainly from my side, I hope it’s not. He is integral to what we’re doing and is an inspirational player, we’re desperate to keep him.”
In addition to Guimaraes, striker Alexander Isak has also been linked with a potential transfer. Howe emphasized the importance of both players, stating, “They’re two outstanding players. I’ve said many times this season that they can make the difference and have made the difference at numerous times. It’s always about the team and how the team functions. The team gives them a platform to play well and their involvement in the goals today was top class, but you can’t forget their teammates who helped them.”
Guimaraes himself seemed optimistic about the future, posting on Instagram, “Finished the season with a memorable match! Three points, two assists, and one goal. Thank you for the support today and we hope it’s enough for us to be in Europe next season! Howay the lads.”
The midfielder also took a moment to respond to past criticism from talkSPORT pundits Danny Murphy and Simon Jordan. In February, they had claimed that he was not athletic enough to be considered one of the best in the league. After his impressive display at Brentford, Guimaraes shared a screenshot of a Sky Sports graphic showing that he had covered the most distance of any player in the Premier League this season. He humorously captioned it with “he isn’t athletic” along with a thumbs-up and laughing emoji.
As the transfer window approaches, Newcastle fans will be eagerly watching to see if their star players remain with the team or if the lure of bigger clubs proves too strong.
