Chelsea is gearing up for a busy transfer window, with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali having already invested nearly £1 billion in new players since taking over the club in May 2022. Their latest significant signing was Enzo Fernandez from Benfica last January, as they aim to climb the Premier League table under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

As Chelsea progresses in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup still within reach, the club’s owners are showing a strong desire to secure silverware. To shed light on the potential transfer moves, football.london has assessed some noteworthy stories emerging from Stamford Bridge.

Next Haaland’ Open to January Move:

Chelsea’s pursuit of a striker in the upcoming transfer window has received a boost. Victor Osimhen has long been linked with a Premier League move, and with Napoli seeking to extend his contract, clubs may explore alternative options in January. According to 90min, Benjamin Sesko, often dubbed the ‘Next Haaland,’ has caught the eye of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle.

The 20-year-old, who recently joined RB Leipzig from Salzburg, is reportedly open to a January move. Sesko, a Slovenia international, is looking for more playing time ahead of the European Championships in the summer. A potential loan deal with an obligation to buy has been mentioned. While Chelsea may not urgently need a new striker, Sesko could be a wise alternative without the hefty price tag of other targets like Osimhen and Ivan Toney.

Our view: Sesko could be a valuable addition next month, especially with the potential for an obligation to buy clause based on appearances. Chelsea’s interest stands at 9/10.

Silva Replacement Identified:

Chelsea is reportedly in talks with Sporting over a deal for Ousmane Diomande, identified as a replacement for Thiago Silva. The 20-year-old defender has become a primary transfer target for the Blues. Sporting, however, has indicated a £69 million release clause for Diomande.

Even with Chelsea facing an injury crisis, Pochettino’s squad boasts several center-back options. The club already has Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, and Thiago Silva, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Despite potential departures, Chelsea maintains a solid defensive lineup, including promising talent Bashir Humphreys.

Our view: Chelsea’s pursuit of Diomande, given the current defensive options, receives a 5/10 rating. The club may not require another center-half at this time.
