Premier League have just announced the shocking VAR Error By referees of Manchester City VS Chelsea- PGMOL under scrutiny over surprising VAR mistake made by The Referee during the Chelsea Match after Nicholas Jackson was ruled Out as Offside
Chelsea supporters are furious as referee Antony Taylor looked to be ignoring nothing on the primary VAR monitor when he discarded his call to give Chelsea a penalty kick.
Enzo Maresca’s debut as Chelsea’s Premier League manager ended in a challenging 2-0 loss to Manchester City, the current champions. Chelsea put up a strong fight and created several opportunities to score, but ultimately, the match was decided by two key moments: Erling Haaland’s precise finish in the 18th minute and a late goal from Mateo Kovacic.
Maresca made significant changes to the team that had previously drawn 1-1 with Inter Milan. He introduced four new players into the starting lineup: Moises Caicedo, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer, and Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea adopted a more traditional 4-2-3-1 formation, with Caicedo and Romeo Lavia playing deeper roles, while Enzo Fernandez took a central position. Nkunku and Palmer played on the left and right flanks, respectively.
Chelsea started the game on a positive note, with Wesley Fofana—playing his first Premier League game in 448 days—getting an early chance, but his volley from a corner went over the bar. However, Manchester City took the lead in the 18th minute. A pass from Jeremy Doku found Bernardo Silva, who managed to poke the ball past Levi Colwill. Haaland then took control, driving towards the goal and chipping the ball over Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez. Although there was a brief check for offside by VAR, the goal stood.
Despite being behind, Chelsea continued to create dangerous opportunities. Robert Sanchez made a great save to stop a long-range shot from Doku, and moments later, Chelsea almost equalized. A well-coordinated move ended with Nkunku setting up Jackson, who then laid the ball off to Fernandez. Fernandez’s powerful shot was blocked by a City defender, denying Chelsea a goal.
Just before halftime, Chelsea thought they had scored when Cole Palmer’s shot was fumbled by City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, and Jackson tapped in the rebound. However, the goal was ruled out because Jackson was in an offside position. Chelsea also had two penalty appeals turned down in quick succession as Fernandez and Nkunku were brought down in the box.
In the second half, Sanchez made another crucial save, this time from a 20-yard strike by Haaland. Pedro Neto made his debut for Chelsea just before the hour mark and nearly made an immediate impact. After a quick passing move, Palmer passed to Fernandez, whose low cross was nearly finished by Neto at the far post, but Rico Lewis made an exceptional defensive play to prevent the goal.
Chelsea continued to push for an equalizer. Jackson came close with an acrobatic volley, but Ederson made an excellent save to deny him. As the game progressed, Maresca brought on more new signings, Marc Guiu and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, in an effort to change the outcome. Marc Cucurella played for 80 minutes before an injury forced him off.
Chelsea had another penalty appeal rejected when the ball hit Kovacic’s arm, but the referee decided that Kovacic was too close to the ball to avoid contact. In the final moments, Kovacic scored City’s second goal after collecting a clearance, driving past Caicedo, and curling a 25-yard shot that Sanchez could only touch before it hit the post and went in.
Chelsea continued to press until the end, with Palmer and Fernandez both testing Ederson, but they couldn’t find a way through. The game ended in a 2-0 defeat, leaving Chelsea empty-handed despite their efforts.
Now, Chelsea shifts its attention to the UEFA Conference League, where they face Servette in the first leg of the play-offs on Thursday night. The match will take place at Stamford Bridge, with a spot in the group stage at stake.
