Ipswich Town is close to signing midfielder Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea this summer, as per HITC sources.
Chelsea couldn’t promise Hutchinson enough playing time, so it was best for everyone if he moved away from Stamford Bridge.
Hutchinson’s transfer to Chelsea from Arsenal in 2022 hasn’t gone well for the attacking midfielder. He now needs a fresh start, and working with former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town might be just what he needs.
Hutchinson started his youth career with Chelsea but was spotted by Charlton in 2012. He later joined Arsenal’s under-12 team after a brief break to play futsal.
When he was a teenager, Hutchinson impressed everyone at Arsenal, earning praise from the legendary Brazilian footballer Pele. It looks like he will get to play in the Premier League next season.
Hutchinson shared a memorable experience of meeting Pele with The Sun: “After the tournament ended, they gathered everyone and chose one player from each team to show off their skills. Everyone at Arsenal was shouting my name, so I did some tricks. Pele said nice things to me, let me sit on his knee, and we took a group photo. My grandmother Gloria, who loved Pele, was thrilled. Seeing him and sitting on his knee was a dream come true for her. Pele was my hero growing up, and I also admired players like Santi Cazorla, Neymar, and Messi.”
Despite the high praise from Pele, Hutchinson never made it big at Arsenal. When Mikel Arteta became the coach at Arsenal, he gave many academy players a chance, but things didn’t work out for Hutchinson.
The move to Chelsea didn’t work out for him either, and now Chelsea is set to receive around £22 million for the 22-year-old’s transfer to Ipswich Town. The deal doesn’t include a buyback option, but it does have a significant sell-on clause.
