Ten Hag sack? Bad news for ‘bemused’ Man Utd boss as Romano confirms fresh ‘meetings’ over replacement

Fabrizio Romano claims that Man Utd “had discussions with the agents of several managers” during the past few days in a negative indication for Erik ten Hag’s job stabilityUnder the Dutchman, Ten Hag guided the Red Devils to an FA Cup final, League Cup glory, and a top-four Premier League finish—a first season of success.

Man Utd finished seventh this season and was knocked out of Europe before Christmas, finishing bottom of their Champions League group, thus initially his second season was a failure.

While some believe that an FA Cup triumph marks Ten Hag’s next great season, others find it difficult to overlook the subpar performances and outcomes leading up the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag from Romano also had concerning remarks on Tuesday on the transfer expert stating that Man Utd has still been contacting other managers recently.

Romano penned in his Caught Offside column: “We’re still waiting for Manchester United’s ultimate decision on Erik ten Hag, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe probably important on this. However, I can also state that Man United visited agents representing other managers even in the previous few days.

“Thomas Tuchel is one manager who would be eager for the position; yet, United wants to make sure they have alternative choices should they choose to fire Ten Hag. This week is vital; a choice has to be made on whether to retain Ten Hag or modify things; what is known is United is maintaining active contacts for a possible successor.

Ten Hag is eager to learn out this week if Man Utd would choose to retain him or not, according to Sky Sports writer Kaveh Solhekol.

Solhekol said: “Manchester United’s stance was they were going to have an end-of-season review. That began a week ago and will examine all the seasonal events.

“You would imagine they would decide whether to replace Erik ten Hag, whose contract term runs another year, or keep him.

Ten Hag is on holiday and awaits word on what will happen. According to what I know, he is expecting to be informed this week whether he is staying or leaving.

Clearly, his contractual position has to be resolved if he is to go. Nevertheless, he is a guy in demand and, should United decide he is not for them, he wants to go back into management immediately.

“You would imagine these new minority shareholders, who have been in place since January, already had a quite decent opinion about Ten Hag. They interact with him on the training ground and observe team performance.

“You would understand if Ten Hag was perplexed about what is going on — ‘the season is concluded, why am I being left out to dry and not being informed what is happening?’
