Premier League

That game really got hard to watch starting from the 30th minute. There is no real hunger to score goals or the strive for victory. It felt like they were already tired before the game started. They are only playing for their wages” – This is according to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand as he blows hot on the performance of Manchester United players during the Premier League match against Liverpool as he claims they are playing football for their huge wage and gives advice to Sir Jim Ratcliffe to meet such terrible performances with wage cuts.

Manchester United have been urged to reconsider their interest in Brentford’s star forward, Ivan Toney, despite earlier links to several top Premier League clubs.
The England international was anticipated to be a prime target in the summer transfer market, but so far, no major club, including Manchester United, has made a concrete bid.

Toney had been frequently mentioned in connection with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. However, Tottenham chose to sign Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, while Arsenal and Chelsea have yet to express any serious interest in Toney, casting doubt on his suitability for these top-tier teams.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed concerns about Toney’s fit at Old Trafford. Ferdinand questioned whether the 28-year-old striker aligns with United’s current approach and long-term objectives.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ferdinand said, “Personally, I wouldn’t go after someone like Ivan Toney. His age and profile don’t seem to match what the club needs.

It doesn’t seem like a good fit to me. He was a player everyone thought might move to Arsenal or Chelsea for £100m or £80m, but now there are no offers. I’m confused by this. For Manchester United, I just don’t see it working.”

Toney had an impressive 2022-23 Premier League campaign, finishing as the third-highest scorer with 20 goals in 33 appearances, trailing only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

Manchester United have already strengthened their attack this summer with the signing of Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee, adding to their current roster that includes Rasmus Hojlund.

However, recent reports suggest they might still be in the market for another attacker before the transfer window closes.

As the transfer deadline approaches, the spotlight will be on Manchester United’s next move.Manchester United’s transfer strategy remains a topic of significant debate, particularly regarding their potential interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney. While Toney was previously linked to top clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, no substantial offers have materialized for the England international striker.

Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, has recently voiced his concerns about the suitability of Toney for the club. Ferdinand suggested that Toney’s age (28) and playing style may not align with United’s current direction and future ambitions. He pointed out that the absence of concrete bids from top clubs, despite Toney’s impressive goal-scoring record in the 2022-23 Premier League season (20 goals in 33 appearances), raises questions about his perceived value in the market.

Manchester United has already bolstered their attacking options this summer with the acquisition of Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee, joining Rasmus Hojlund and other attacking talents. However, there are indications that United might still be exploring further reinforcements for their attack before the transfer window closes.

The decision on whether to pursue Toney or focus on other targets will depend on how the club views its current squad dynamics and long-term strategy under Erik ten Hag. With the transfer deadline looming, the coming weeks could reveal more about Manchester United’s plans to compete at the highest level in the Premier League and Europe.
