Arsenal is currently searching for a star striker, and one option worth considering is Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad, who’s thinking about coming back to play in Europe soon.
The Gunners are keen on bolstering their squad this month to increase their chances of competing for the Premier League title. While signing Ivan Toney from Brentford seems unlikely due to the high cost and Toney’s commitment to stay until summer, other options like Borja Mayoral from Getafe and Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna may be too expensive.
Considering Financial Fair Play rules, a loan move for a striker seems reasonable, and our suggestion is that Arsenal should boldly pursue Benzema. Reports suggest that the striker is not settled in the Saudi Pro League, and big clubs like Real Madrid, Lyon, and Manchester United are interested in loaning him.
Benzema had a fantastic season with Real Madrid last year, scoring 31 goals and providing six assists in 43 appearances. Since joining Al-Ittihad last summer, he has added 12 more goals and five assists, but now he’s eyeing a return to European football.
Even though Benzema is 36 years old, he could be an upgrade over Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. His goal conversion rate is nearly twice as much as Jesus this season. While he may not press as aggressively as Jesus, Benzema’s goal-scoring ability and smart positioning make him a genuine threat in the box.
A loan move for Benzema could be a low-risk investment for Arsenal, but it depends on him accepting a significant pay cut from his current £1.66 million per week wages. Our estimate is that Arsenal is unlikely to offer more than £250,000 per week. Despite the challenges, Benzema remains a world-class striker and could significantly enhance the club’s scoring capabilities.
