In a thrilling match between Arsenal and Manchester City, Manchester City lost valuable points even though Arsenal played with only ten men after an early red card.
Football pundit Paul Merson raised concerns about why Manchester City player, Jeremy Doku, wasn’t given a yellow card in the first half for delaying the restart of play.
The game, featuring two of the Premier League’s top teams, saw Arsenal traveling to Manchester, hoping to secure their first win against City since 2015. Things looked bleak for Arsenal early on when, after just nine minutes, Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland scored, taking advantage of Arsenal’s shaky defense.
However, Arsenal responded unexpectedly through their new signing Riccardo Calafiori. The left-back delivered a stunning goal, shooting from outside the box and beating Manchester City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, with a powerful strike into the top corner.
Just before halftime, Arsenal took the lead. Gabriel capitalized on a well-taken corner by Bukayo Saka, finding space near the goal to tap the ball in and give his team the advantage.
However, Arsenal’s joy was short-lived. Six minutes into stoppage time, Leandro Trossard was shown a second yellow card for wasting time by kicking the ball away, leaving Arsenal with only ten players for the rest of the match.
At halftime, Merson, an Arsenal legend, pointed out that earlier in the game, Manchester City’s Doku had also delayed play by kicking the ball into Arsenal’s half but escaped any punishment. Merson questioned the referee’s decision not to book Doku, especially since Trossard received a yellow card for a similar offense.
